How We Finish Each Stone

Every stone begins with inspection. We turn it in the hand, study its natural markings and choose the face most likely to reveal its strongest detail.

1. Selection

We look for character, contrast, shape and sufficient size to create a satisfying display object.

2. A stable base

The underside is flattened only as much as necessary to help the stone stand securely. It is not treated as the main display surface.

3. The display face

One chosen face is progressively worked through several diamond grits. Time is concentrated on removing the marks left by the previous stage before moving to a finer grit.

4. Natural sides retained

The rough outer surfaces remain visible. This contrast between polished and natural stone is central to the Quartzes style.
